In "The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary" you state that she died. This puts me in a quandary. I understand that death is a result of original sin. Since Our Mother was conceived and born without original sin, how could she have died? Obviously I'm missing something here, for John, who was born without original sin, was beheaded on orders of Herod and most assuredly died. Can somebody please straighten me out? Ding

It seems to me that if one without original sin WAS killed, one without original CAN die. It may have been God's choice to bring her, alive, to heaven. With God, is not everything possible? I haven't seen where it's written that those without original sin cannot die.
Come on, drill me full of holes! Vic

My recollection is that BVM did not die and ascended to heaven "bodily". This was possible since she was born without O/Sin. To my knowledge, only the BVM and our Lord were born w/o O/Sin. Where does it say John was also born without O/Sin. One of the prophets also ascended to heaven in a flaming chariot. He was born wO/Sin. But then with God nothing is impossible. CAn our priest classmate please clarify. Tony

Whether or not the Blessed Virgin Mary died, as we know death, has been speculated on for a long time. Was she spared physical death because she was born without original sin? I don't think that the Roman Catholic Church has made any definite conclusion in this matter. And the scripture is silent about it. As far as I know, original sin has more to do with the life of the immortal soul so that one born without original sin but being of human flesh and blood, as Mary was, could still have experienced natural death. Her son, Jesus Christ, suffered physical death. So why should Mary not have gone the natural way? Anyway, we Catholics believe in Mary's Assumption and affirm this belief in the rosary's fourth glorious mystery whether or not she died the way all humans die. Reub
