June 6, First Friday, was different. Oh the AIM Mass was a go, but the class took a midyear break from the usual dinner meeting. After a brief sharing of info at the Manila Room of the Elks, the class moved to the Heritage Dining Room for Candlelight Dinner and Soft Guitar, and partied.

In attendance were Noli Quiray, Danny de Jesus, Boy Bautista, Espy Espeleta, Fr. Guido, Nick Ramirez, Rody Castillo, Emy Ramos, Ed Olivares, Esting Teopaco, Totoy Llamas, Jorge Lacson, Jimmy Hidalgo and Ding DeJesus. Tito Felizardo and Mike Guerrero were at the Mass but had to excuse themselves from the dinner due to prior commitments. So, there were a total of 16 survivors at the Mass and 14 at dinner. Ed Olivares' pretty daughter Pixie was there but only for a glass of wine. Gosh it's fortunate that she took after her mom!

Prior to the party the class passed the hat for Emong Miranda, who at this writing is at the Cardinal Santos Memorial Medical Center. Emong has had to be treated for pleurisy, or water in the lungs. All that water's almost gone, but what they need to find out is what caused that condition. Pray that it isn't cancer.

The class also individually signed a Mass Card for the late Teresita Morente, wife of classmate Florencio "Doy" Morente. Doy is not in the pink of health either, having suffered from emphysema all these years. He has not left his house since he started wheezing and catching his breath. Hence his inability to join the class, and indeed his wife's wake and cremation at the Loyola Chapels and Crematorium. Esting and Ding were able to condole with two of his children at the wake.

For a change some good news. Ateneo -- yes, the Jesuits, would you believe? -- turned over to the class a whopping P99000 or something like that as the class' share in the revenues of the fund that it raised for the Henry Lee Irwin Professorial Chair, back in 1975. It is hoped that this amount will allow the class to continue its monthly Mass and dinner meetings without having to dig too deep into its individual pockets.

The brief meeting before dinner did not allow any other business to be taken up. In July it'll be back to normal. Stay tuned.
